Each pressure cooker made by Hawkins features an inside fitting lid. This design is inherently safer than conventional pressure cookers. To open any Hawkins cooker, you have to first lower the lid slightly into the body of the cooker; and that cannot be done until the steam pressure inside the cooker falls to a safe level. Thus Hawkins pressure cookers are pressure-locked for safety - like a jetliner door!

The overall quality of the pressure cooker is good. However, the whistle somehow gets locked when it lifted by the pressure and does not come down on its own. One has to manually push the whistle, which is irritating!

The cooker had a depression at the bend near the bottom of about an inch which could be felt from inside too , although the box showed no hit marks, meaning thereby the product was not damaged during transit, but a defective product was packed and sent. I committed a mistake of not re-packing straightaway and someone from the house hold not noticing the defect poured little water in it and tested it for pressure and whistle! This created some black marks on inside of the lid and at the water level in the vessel.Don't commit this mistake if you are an honest person.So I am now going to keep it.
